Maria Strenacikova Sr. and Maria Strenacikova Jr.: Slovak colleagues of the International Center of Complex Artistic Research at the L. V. Sobinov Saratov State Conservatory
Abstract
This essay is devoted to the professional and academic careers of two distinguished Slovak musicologists and educators, Maria Strenacikova Sr. and Maria Strenacikova Jr. The work traces the development of their pedagogical views and research interests against the cultural and historical background of Slovakia from the second half of the 20th century to the early 21st century. Particular attention is paid to the relationship between musical and natural-science knowledge in their professional methodology, as well as to continuity between generations in music education. The essay also examines the contribution of both Marias to the development of higher music education in Banská Bystrica, including at the J. L. Bella Conservatory and the Academy of Arts, as well as their scholarly and editorial, expert, and organizational work. Considerable attention is given to international cooperation, particularly their collaboration with the International Center of Complex Artistic Research at the Saratov Conservatory and the editorial teams of specialist academic journals. The essay demonstrates how pedagogy, musicology, and interdisciplinary approaches are brought together in the work of two generations of the same musical family.
