A video game in the "roguelike" genre as a work of generative art
Abstract
The purpose of the study is to complement the existing theory of generative art, for the first time defining the status of such a phenomenon as the video game genre "roguelike" in it, and to establish whether it makes sense to consider video games related to it as works of generative art. This approach to the analysis of video games is used for the first time, which is the scientific novelty of this study. The article analyzes various examples of building a gameplay around interaction with autonomous generative systems typical of this genre. The author points out the prerequisites for its formation and draws parallels between iconic video games for the genre and "traditional" works of generative art. As a result of the research, the author concludes that video games in the "roguelike" genre may well be attributed to the field of generative art, although with certain reservations.
