Sanatorium and resort architectural heritage of the Crimean southern coast of the 1900s-1950s

Abstract

The purpose of the research is to identify and analyze the cultural and historical heritage of the sanatorium–resort architecture of the Crimean southern coast in the 1900s and 1950s. The article discusses unique sanatorium-resort facilities, the Yalta sanatorium for officers and class officials of the military department (built in 1913, today it is the N. I. Pirogov building of the I. M. Sechenov Crimean Research Institute) and the sanatorium "Russia" (built in 1957), erected by outstanding Russian architects on the territory of the city of Yalta, as vivid examples of the continuity of ancient, Renaissance and classicist traditions in architecture. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the fact that the author for the first time concretizes the aspects of the artistic and stylistic continuity of the elements of the facade decor of the sanatorium-resort architecture of the objects under study. As a result of the study, it was found that the analyzed structural and compositional solutions of the facade decoration elements of the structures under consideration indicate a tradition of continuity in the sanatorium-resort architectural space of the Crimean southern coast of the 1900s and 1950s.
